DeSantis Effect? Exxon Bans LGBTQ Rainbow Flag

(Republican Insider) – Has Florida Governor Ron DeSantis triggered a tide change in America’s culture war?

DeSantis has been fighting the radical left’s corrupt, deranged agenda for months now but things really got heated last month when he signed the state’s Parental Rights in Education bill.

Leftists went into full-blown tantrum mode accusing the governor and Republicans of “dehumanizing” children and labeling the bill the “Don’t Say Gay” bill. Of course, as usual, their insults and attacks were way off base and totally insane.

DeSantis wasn’t done. In light of a series of videos featuring Disney higher-ups discussing how it is their goal to insert sexual themes and LGBT characters into their programming, America, along with DeSantis, has put our foot down.

With mass numbers of Americans canceling Disney subscriptions and vacations, things only got worse for the woke company when the Florida legislature voted last Friday to dissolve the Reedy Creek Improvement District, Disney’s self-governance and taxation privileges granted by the state in 1967.

DeSantis and the state of Florida sent the clear message that powerful corporations are no longer calling the shots. It’s time to make them pay for pushing their woke agendas on Americans via workplaces, local governments, and schools.

It looks like this may be the start of a shift in the culture war. On Friday, ExxonMobil Corp. updated its policy on which flags will be permitted to fly outside its offices. According to the new guidance, “external position flags” will now be prohibited. That would include the LGBT “rainbow” and Black Lives Matter flags.

Ouch.

The company used to allow the LGBT rainbow flag to be flown during June, which is “Pride Month.” Now the “commonly recognized” LGBT flag is no longer allowed at all. Exxon, however, is allowing “a flag representing an LGBTQ employees’ group that does not prominently feature Exxon’s corporate logo.”

The report by Bloomberg did not specifically note when exactly Exxon adopted this new policy but public interest in the news is undeniable given the events that have transpired in Florida.

The Western Journal pointed out, “News organizations from across the political spectrum, from Fox News to The New York Times, National Review and The Hill reported news of the Exxon decision as the latest twist in a long-running controversy over corporate involvement in political questions that the DeSantis-Disney clash brought to the forefront.”

According to Bloomberg, an LGBT group in the company, Exxon’s PRIDE Houston Chapter, wrote in an email Thursday that “Corporate leadership took exception to a rainbow flag being flown at our facilities” last year.

“PRIDE was informed the justification was centered on the need for the corporation to maintain ‘neutrality.’”

Isn’t it about time corporations went back to maintaining “neutrality,” you know, so as not to alienate major chunks of consumers and all?

Bloomberg reported on an email in which PRIDE announced it will no longer “represent the company at the city’s June 25 Pride celebration.”

“It is difficult to reconcile how ExxonMobil recognizes the value of promoting our corporation as supportive of the LGBTQ+ community externally (e.g. advertisements, Pride parades, social media posts) but now believes it inappropriate to visibly show support for our LGBTQ+ employees at the workplace.

“Flying a Pride flag is one small way many corporations choose to visibly show their care, inclusion and support for LGBTQ+ employees,” the email argued. “These types of visible actions are even more impactful for many of our LGBTQ+ colleagues who aren’t out at work and may not feel comfortable participating in PRIDE events.”

Awe. What a shame. ExxonMobil Vice President of Human Resources Tracey Gunnlaugsson responded to the email in a statement that read:

“The updated flag protocol is intended to clarify the use of the ExxonMobil branded company flag and not intended to diminish our commitment to diversity and support for employee resource groups. We’re committed to keeping an open, honest, and inclusive workplace for all of our employees, and we’re saddened that any employee would think otherwise.

“Diversity is not a stand-alone activity; it is embedded in our core values, our approach to how we develop talent, and the culture to which we aspire.”

Remember when it was acceptable just to treat everyone with respect and dignity? That isn’t enough for the radical left. They aren’t happy unless Corporate America promotes, advertises, and openly supports their lifestyles.

It looks like just maybe DeSantis may have given some companies the push they’ve been needing to put their foot down and reject this corporate embrace of the radical left.

It’s time to restore normalcy and sanity to America.

  1. EXXON still is allowing LGBT flag to be flown on other parts of their property as long as they get permission according to another article on the Internet. It’s just not to be with the company flag. There should be only one flag for any company to fly, it’s called the American flag and it is so inclusive it covers all Americans and is not a flag that only represents the sexual activity of LGBT people.
