Struggling CNN Makes Major Strategy Change In Order To Stop ‘Alarming’ Viewers

(Republican Insider) – CNN is under new management and is reportedly attempting to change their image. Whether or not the effort to do this will be serious or not, remains to be seen, but the network’s new CEO seems to be hitting the ground running.

According to a network memo obtained by Axios, CEO Chris Licht is attempting to make changes that will better help the network inform “not alarm” their viewers.

In a memo written to staff Thursday, Licht announced that CNN will be limiting the use of its “breaking news” banner in line with planned updates to its editorial guidelines.

“It has become such a fixture on every channel and network that its impact has become lost on the audience,” Licht stated in the memo.

CNN’s stylebook will now include guidelines on when and when it’s not appropriate to use the “breaking news” banner on a story. The change comes as a response to complaints about the banners overuse.

CNN Bureau chief Sam Feist will lead the team responsible for coming up with the policies, Licht’s note stated.

“It certainly will need tweaks, so we are open to feedback, but this is a great starting point to try to make ‘Breaking News’ mean something BIG is happening,” Licht wrote.

“We are truth-tellers, focused on informing, not alarming our viewers,” he stated.

“As I have said, we must be vital, relevant, and respected – and how we show up for our audiences, in every story, in every part of the country, and around the world, matters,” he added.

The “breaking news” guidelines are just a small part of the broader changes the scandal-plagued network is attempting to institute upon Licht’s arrival as CEO.

Licht replaced former CNN Worldwide head Jeffery Zucker who suddenly resigned in February after it was revealed he had engaged in a romantic relationship with close colleague Allison Gollust.

Thanks to Zucker’s leadership over the last 10 years, CNN went from an informative, impartial, non-partisan journalistic outlet to a highly opinionated, emotionally-charged, leftist activism machine peddling in propaganda.

“One of the things that I’ve tried to encourage is authenticity and being real,” Zucker said of his approach according to The Washington Post in March of 2021. “If we pretend not to be human, it’s not real.”

Maybe Zucker tried to make things a little too “real.” Many of the personalities on CNN seem, quite often, to be unhinged from reality and completely caught up in their own emotional rhetoric based on half-truths and partial information.

Things really might be changing for the better, however, now with a new CEO and with Discovery’s takeover of CNN’s parent company, WarnerMedia.

Though, if CNN wants to truly make a major change and turn around their abysmal reputation with Americans, they just might have to finally admit they’ve been pushing lies and misinformation.

Americans have stopped tuning into CNN because they just can’t be trusted. Licht is going to have to face this reality head on if he hopes to make a new image for the network.

In February, Axios reported that with the new management led by Licht, the network wanted to return to traditional news reporting and forego the heated liberal opinionating that characterized CNN under Zucker.

Licht has acknowledged that “too many people have lost trust in the news media,” according to the New York Post.

“I think we can be a beacon in regaining that trust by being an organization that exemplifies the best characteristics of journalism: fearlessly speaking truth to power, challenging the status quo, questioning ‘group-think, and educating viewers and readers with straightforward facts and insightful commentary, while always being respectful of differing viewpoints.

“First and foremost, we should, and we will be advocates for the truth.”

If they want to be advocates for the truth, they should probably start by finally admitting to some of it that they’ve been denying for years, you know, like the fact that the entire Trump-Russia collusion hoax was a lie and that maybe, just maybe, things didn’t go exactly how they should have in the 2020 election, for starters.

Licht, however, seems to possibly be sticking to leftist talking points and narratives. The Thursday memo also announced a new beat for the network called “Guns in America,” in light of the May 24 mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas.

Licht wrote that to promote understanding of “all sides of this complex and divisive issue,” the beat will deal with the “role of guns – who buys & sells them, who makes them, and who regulates them.”

“CNN is uniquely positioned to foster informed policy discussions in this space and help illuminate possible solutions to America’s epidemic of gun violence,” he added.

We’ll see how serious Licht is about turning around CNN’s reputation soon enough. For now, we’re taking it all with a grain of salt.

  1. ““We are truth-tellers, focused on informing, not alarming our viewers,” he stated.”

Do they REALLY think anybody is buying this bilge? “Alarming breaking news banners” are NOT the reason for their ABYSMAL ratings and ZERO credibility!

They are propaganda hacks broadcasting whatever script the Demmunist Party gives them to read ALL DAY, EVERY DAY. If they can’t spin or cover-up athe TRUTH about the conniving, CRIMINAL, America-hating Demmunists, they will OUTRIGHT LIE about it. And they ROUTINELY tell OUTRAGEOUS LIES about Republicans as a matter of course. They are the Demmunist propaganda ministry and have been for DECADES. How do they figure they’re gonna fix THAT, regain their long-lost credibility, and be taken seriously as a legitimate news outlet again? It’s gonna take a LOT more than cutting down on “breaking news” banners to fix the reputation they, themselves THREW AWAY in exchange for spewing Demmunist propaganda and lies 24/7/365!

  2. CNN and the “journalists” and I use that tern lightly, are just a shitshow of incompetence with misinformation and personal opinion’s that don’t mean a thing. More people have left disgraced and then hired back because they can’t get prime reporters and real journalists.
