Biden Allows Chinese Military to Run Simulated Attack on USS Roosevelt

(Republican Insider) – Over the weekend, tensions began rising in the South China Sea near Taiwan. The escalation has continued to boil over after Chinese PLA aircraft made repeated incursions into Taiwan’s claimed airspace.

In response to Chinese aggression, Taiwan’s Air Force sent jets in a “show of strength” message with US aircraft carrier USS Roosevelt in the region.

ZeroHedge reports that China’s Defense Ministry subsequently warned Taipei on Thursday that “independence means war.”

They also reported on a Financial Times report that broke “overnight” that reveals that the weekend aggression was actually far more troubling and alarming for direct conflict than previously thought.

In the FT report, unnamed intelligence sources reported that “Chinese military aircraft simulated missile attacks on a nearby US aircraft carrier during an incursion into Taiwan’s air defense zone three days after Joe Biden’s inauguration, according to intelligence from the US and its allies.”

ZeroHedge previously reported that on Sunday, according to a Taiwanese report, a large PLA aerial incursion for the second day in a row in which well over a dozen fighter jets were counted which included six J-10 fighters, four J-16s, two SU-30s, a Y-8 reconnaissance aircraft and two Y-8 anti-submarine aircrafts.

“Airborne alert sorties had been tasked, radio warnings issued and air defense missile systems deployed to monitor the activity,” Taiwan’s defense ministry had said.

The FT report went on to provide previously unknown context of the incident saying that the bombers and some fighter aircrafts involved were conducting an exercise that used a group of US Navy vessels which were being led by the carrier USS Roosevelt in the same area as a simulated target, according to US intelligence.

“Pilots of H-6 bombers could be heard in cockpit conversations confirming orders for the simulated targeting and release of anti-ship missiles against the carrier, the people said,” according to FT.

ZeroHedge points out there was likely little doubt that the US carrier had their fingers “on the trigger” in case “all hell broke loose” as they watched inbound Chinese bombers.

According to an analyst at Taiwan’s Institute for National Defense and Security Research, Su Tzu-yun, the PLA aircrafts are more than capable of delivering devastating anti-ship missiles.

“The Su-30 [fighters] can carry Kh-31 anti-ship missiles, and the H-6 bombers and J-16 fighters can both carry YJ anti-ship missiles.”

“All three aircraft are clearly a display of threat against surface ships,” he added.

Though Biden has expressed that he would like to improve relations with China, no doubt by kowtowing to their authority, this developing situation will no doubt cause hurdles in that regard.

This is very likely the biggest act of escalation to date in the South China Sea despite multiple close calls over the last two years.

Now that President Trump is no longer in office, China is inevitably feeling emboldened. What will Joe Biden do when he has a moral obligation to side with Taiwan but he’s also Beijing’s puppet?
