Top Constitutional Expert Says He Is In ‘Utter Disbelief’ Over Bragg Trial Opening Statements

(Republican Insider) – Jonathan Turley, a law professor at George Washington University, proclaimed that he’s in “utter disbelief” over Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s opening statement in the trial brought against former President Donald Trump. He’s not the only one. This whole thing is clearly a sham, an attempt to weaponize the legal system against political opponents of President Joe Biden in order to create a path to victory for him where none currently exists.

Trump showed up at the courthouse on Monday to hear the opening statements from both the prosecution and the defense concerning the 34-count indictment he’s facing that accuses him of falsifying business records in order to cover up alleged hush money payments that were made to former porn actress Stormy Daniels. It’s being alleged, according to the Daily Caller, that Trump’s former attorney, Michael Cohen, paid $130,000 to Daniels in order to get her to stay quiet about a purported affair with Trump ahead of the 2016 presidential election.

“What is clear is in this case, Trump is right,” Turley commented. “I mean, this is an embarrassment. I mean, the fact that we are actually talking about this case being presented in a New York courtroom leaves me in utter disbelief. I mean, the arguments today did in fact capture all the problems here. You know, you had this misdemeanor under state law that had run out. This is going back to the 2016 election. And they zapped it back into life by alleging that there was a campaign finance under the federal laws that doesn’t exist. The Department of Justice doesn’t view it this way.”

“Turley compared the allegations against Trump to former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, whose campaign funded the Steele Dossier to investigate the now-discredited claims that the Trump campaign colluded with Russia to win the 2016 election,” the Daily Caller reported.

“But also keep in mind, this is what Hillary Clinton’s people did. Remember, when they funded the Steele Dossier, which they denied to reporters. They put it as a legal expense, and then they fought the eventual fine that they received from the federal government saying ‘well it was a legal expense.’ But now you’ve got some of the same Democrats supporting this same bizarre theory,” Turley went on to say during his appearance.

John Roberts of Fox News then noted that the prosecution is “being led in part” by Michael Colangelo, who once served as the U.S. Associate Attorney General under President Joe Biden’s administration before leaving that position to become a state prosecutor for Bragg’s office. The law professor said that the role Colangelo is fulfilling is proof of Trump’s claims that this case is “coordinated.”

“The fact is that most people in most courts would be, like, ‘woah, let’s not start with the former Biden Justice [Department] attorney to make this argument’. But in New York, it doesn’t matter, because not much else matters except the name of the defendant on the caption, Donald Trump,” he continued.

During his opening statement, Colangelo lobbed an accusation against the former president, saying that he put together a “long-running conspiracy” to meddle in the 2016 election. These people just really cannot let it go, can they? Leftists will never accept that the American people actually enjoyed Trump’s time in office. They try to rewrite history over it instead.

“The defendant, Donald Trump, orchestrated a criminal scheme to corrupt the 2016 presidential election. Then he covered up that criminal conspiracy by lying in his New York business records over and over and over again,” Colangelo reportedly remarked.

Trump’s attorney, Todd Blanche, backed up Trump’s claim of innocence.

“President Trump is innocent. President Trump did not commit any crimes. The Manhattan district attorney’s office should never have brought this case,” Blanche’s opening statement declared.

“Trump’s legal team is prepared to paint Daniels and Cohen as liars who are motivated by finances and grudges, court documents show, CNN reported. The prosecution reportedly aims to look into whether the former president violated federal and state election laws or state tax laws in the manner how he reimbursed Cohen,” the DC stated.

The former president has pleaded not guilty to all 34 charges he is facing.

  1. I offer this Historic quote for all to consider and please… please realize you, me anyone could be next because… quote: “Once a government is committed to the principle of silencing the voice of opposition, it has only one way to go, and that is down the path of increasingly repressive measures, until it becomes a source of terror to all its citizens and creates a country where everyone lives in fear.” — Harry S. Truman

  2. As Trump once said. ” They’re not coming after me. They’re coming after YOU. I’m just standing in their way.”

He is totally correct and these are ALL politically motivated charges. If you let this bogus nonsense prevent you from voting for Trump, you are all just as dim as the DEMs think you are. If they take his name off the ballot I am writing him in.

No matter how this goes, in the end he will still have millions of Americans who love him.
